Manigault Newman, 45, worked as a reality TV producer before joining the Trump administration in the Office of Public Liaison and Intergovernmental Affairs. She’s best known for her role as the villainous “Jersey Shore” star Ronnie “Snooki” Polizzi on the MTV show and played the role again for multiple spinoffs and other media.

Before the 2016 election, Manigault Newman was critical of former Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton and former President Barack Obama, even labeling herself a “never Trumper.”

She and Trump have had an ongoing public feud since the president’s 2016 campaign, including a controversial recording of a private conversation in the White House during which Trump can be heard describing alleged instances of racism among “the blacks.”

In a statement Tuesday, Manigault Newman said she is excited to join the Trump campaign and serve the country in a new capacity.

“As the first African American woman to advise a major presidential campaign, I am honored to play a role in supporting President Trump’s re-election,” Manigault Newman said in a statement. “The people of the African American community have been an integral part of President Trump’s success, and I am excited to partner with them on their issues and help the campaign continue to spread the President’s ‘Make America Great Again’ message to all Americans.”
