Using a variable to define what filename to open

I’m trying to make a console program that asks the user a string for a filename and it will open said file and print the string. I think the problem is with the line in the while loop:
FILE *file=fopen(filename,”r”);

The filename is in the filename variable. I made the variables out of string and print them, then printed the variables at the end to make sure they are what I want. They are, but when I use fopen to open the file, it doesn’t read any data.

In your code, you are assigning address of a variable named filename to the fopen() function’s first argument(named filename) inside main() function, hence the variable filename does not point to anything and the fopen() fails.
Move the call of fopen() inside the loop.
