This tool reads/writes or changes the volume of a midi file. It is not
intended to change any other stuff than the volume.
It is a simple command line tool written in python that reads and writes
binary midi files. It uses the FluidSynth midi library.
Usage:
midivol -a – –
Changes volume to for notes of the given midi-file.
Example:
midivol -a 1 -2 -3 .midi
Volume of files 1, 2 and 3 will be set to level 2.

The advantage of this tool is that it will alter the volume of a midi file on note which has a high volume at play, without causing any delay.
This is because it is not possible to set the velocity for all notes on a midi file and it must therefore be changed manually if possible.

MIDIVOL is a simple command line tool that reads a binary midi file. The midi file is processed line by line, and for each midi channel’s volume all the values between the minimum and the maximum level are stored. After that, only the channel’s maximum and minimum volumes are read. Then the midi file is written as a new binary file.
This way, if there are many midi files with different levels of main volume and different volumes for all the channels, this “midivol” tool help you to change the maximum level of all the midi files to a common level.
Additionally to the change of the maximum level of the midi files, an interesting “side effect” is added, that is the comparison of the statistics of maximum and minimum volumes of the midi files.
This way, it will be possible to know the difference of the maximum and minimum volumes of all the midi files and evaluate where is the real reason for the difference of the volumes.
