manidweepa varnana in tamil pdf download.Q:
How to specify number of pages when opening a document using iText7?
I’m currently using iText7 (1.7.8) to write a little document generator that reads in a text file and builds each page.
My problem is that I’m not sure how to specify the number of pages when generating the PDF.
Right now, I’m able to generate PDFs just fine, however they all show one page per page. I.e, I’d like to generate two pages, each with a new page number.
Here’s my code:
PdfDocument document = new PdfDocument(new PdfWriter(destination));
PdfPage page1 = document.startPage(1);
PdfPage page2 = document.startPage(2);
Document doc = new Document(page1);
page2.add(doc);
doc.close();
document.writePdf(destination);
document.close();
Edit: if it matters, I’m using Java 1.8.
A:
You need to use the setNumberOfPages(int) method of PdfDocument. What you are doing is creating a new PdfDocument using PdfWriter and calling startPage(int) on that PdfDocument. Which is a bit misleading: a PdfDocument is not related to PdfWriter in any way (they are two completely different things) so the PdfDocument you create with startPage(1) is unrelated to the PdfDocument that is created and started by PdfWriter’s method startPage(int).
Document doc = new Document(page1);
page2.add(doc);
doc.close();
document.setNumberOfPages(2); // add this
document.writePdf(destination);
document.close();
Note, that even if you call document.close(), the other methods (writePdf, startPage, etc.) would still be necessary to actually write to the PDF. If you don’t call document.close(), you’ll get the following exception:
java.lang.Exception: Cannot close PDF writer because the document has
only 1 pages.
