As AutoCAD is one of the world’s most popular products, many resources and tutorials about it are available. However, these resources can be quite overwhelming to new users. Here, we’ll try to put together all of AutoCAD’s tools and features into one simple, but comprehensive overview.

The first thing you need to do when using AutoCAD is to set your startup file and template. The AutoCAD splash screen will then load, as shown in the image below. Once you have the splash screen loaded, you can start your first project.

Creating a Drawing

To start a new project, click File > New. A new window will open that allows you to choose a drawing template. Here, you can choose from a variety of standard drawing templates like Business, Engineering, Landscape, or Architectural. Click “Template Settings” in the lower left-hand corner, and you’ll be able to choose a drawing template, or create a new one.

New templates are based on DWG files. These are the same files that you would receive if you purchased a copy of AutoCAD and were using it for the first time. However, you can easily copy and paste or move files into your template, change parameters, or add your own custom drawings. If you have more than one template, you can switch between them by simply clicking on their respective tabs in the “Template Settings” window.

A new drawing will be created. In the lower left corner of the window, you’ll see the Drawing window. The window shows all of the drawings that are part of your template. From here, you can create a new drawing, open the existing drawing, or create a new drawing file.

To create a new drawing, click on the “New Drawing” tab. When you create a new drawing, you can choose a drawing template or create a new one.

AutoCAD also supports an on-line drawing exchange format called exchange (DXF) (and XDW). It is a binary format that defines how AutoCAD reads and writes file geometries. XDXF is the exchange format for XDesign, another program from Autodesk. The API called Exchange.XML is used to send and receive XDW (AutoCAD) files.

Editing data outside of the form, and then saving it back to the form in VBA

I have a form in Access which generates a number of tables. I want to be able to edit the data in the tables before I save them. This is easy for me to do, but if I then hit ‘Save’ it saves the data back to the database, not the form. I think I’m misunderstanding something about how forms and tables work in VBA. Can anyone explain what I’m doing wrong?

Many communication systems require that identical digital or analog devices be connected to a transmission line. For example, if a signal is sent down a standard “twisted pair” transmission line, a return signal must be coupled from the receiving end of the line back to the transmitting end of the line. This can be accomplished in many different ways, but typically the return signal is sent back on the same twisted pair transmission line. To avoid intermodulation problems, it is necessary to have the return signal’s delay as close as possible to the return signal’s “twist”.
In some systems, two identical digital or analog devices are coupled to a transmission line, but the devices are separated by a relatively large distance. The particular problem faced in this situation is the fact that the electromagnetic coupling between the two devices is relatively small. Consequently, it is difficult to set the lengths of the parallel conductors in a manner that will insure accurate reception at the receiving end of the transmission line.
