This page details how to convert a DVD set into a DVD-R/CD-R (and/or DVD-RW/CD-RW) using the Backup DVD tool.
When you press the button “Backup” in the DVD Backup window, it will start DVD Backup on a “Backup DVD” which will be burned on your hard disk.
How to backup DVDs:
Press the “Backup” button:
– DVD Backup will start a new backup DVD.
– This DVD will be burnt on your hard disk.
How to restore DVDs:
Restoring DVDs is not possible yet. In the future, we will release a tool to restore DVD backups.
How to make backups:
– You can press the “Backup” button and choose:
￭ Back up a “DVD-Audio” (audio/video) DVD with a DVD-Audio or DVD-5 disc (as explained in the previous section)
￭ Back up a “DVD-Video” DVD with a DVD-R disc
￭ Back up a DVD-VOB set with DVD-R/CD-R discs
– These DVDs will be burnt on your hard disk.
(Don’t forget to insert your new backup DVD into your DVD player.)
WARNING: The resulting backups are NOT encrypted.

If you are using a Windows XP-based computer, you can use the included Windows Xp DVD Backup Utility, from Microsoft.
Windows Vista
If you are using a Windows Vista-based computer, you can use the included Windows Vista DVD Backup Utility, from Microsoft.
Windows 7
If you are using a Windows 7-based computer, you can use the included Windows 7 DVD Backup Utility, from Microsoft.
NOTE:
When you install the DVD Backup Utility, it will ask you whether you want to make an ISO disc image.
It should be noted that the DVD Backup Utility does NOT support Windows 7 – it’s only for Windows XP and Vista.
Starting from version 2.1, the VOB subtitle file encoding will be based on Xing Video’s specifications. Since the author of Auto DVD Backup was always in charge of the subtitle encoding, it has always been much more accurate than the Windows-based encoding.
That is why there are no subtitle problems on the backups created with Auto DVD Backup.
