With the release of BBEdit 10, we also wanted to ensure that our new version of TextMate runs very well. There were two primary problems we had to solve: getting TextMate to save document preferences as a user-defined setting and getting TextMate to quit automatically after loading every open document. So, we knew it was there, and it made us think that it had to be part of the TextMate framework. And that, as they say, was a good thing.

After that, we implemented the mechanism for quitting TextMate without having to quit the application. The system watches for the existence of keyBundleInfo files in the Applications directory, and uses the Bundle Support framework to remove the running TextMate instances when they are no longer needed. The good news is that, with this approach, we can build TextMate using BBEdit without having to disable this mechanism, and it still works with TextMate 2.0.

Note: TextMate 2.0 includes a new scriptable feature called a Paste Indicator that allows you to choose which text view you want TextMate to paste into. BBEdit 10 supports this via the “Show Paste Indicator” preference in the TextMate preferences pane. This is not currently supported for the new features introduced in TextMate 2.0.
