Took a long break and I am back again, loving the new release. It’s nice to have a good suite again. The only thing that would make LR faster when processing RAW files would be if the application would use the new RAW features in Photoshop. In LR, the best option is keeping the files as is when you export to PSD. This is better then converting to JPEG so the image can be scaled just as a JPEG. The conversion to JPEG is not needed to open the layers in Photoshop. Anyway, with my test files, the export to JPEG takes 5-6 seconds and then the size is reduced by 50% which makes the conversion take about 3-4 seconds, so there is no reward to using the new RAW engine in LR. Yes, I will report it in a year or so.

It’s a really talented, powerful tool but you also need to spend a bit of time learning what it’s good for. If you’re already a DP, you’ll save loads of time by switching, but if you’re just starting, don’t get your hopes up. This is a tool for professionals, and if you’re not one then you’ll find it rather clunky and slow (I would even go so far as to say unusable in some places). If you are a DP in need of a tool with which to start your story, keep an eye out for the future releases- it seems as though they are always adding features and making improvements. Adobe are nothing if not forward thinking.

The only thing I disliked about the review so far was the app’s lack of useful social features – I’d love to be able to share my masterpieces with like-minded friends, but sadly I have not found a means of doing so. Still, the time spent is definitely worth it – I am looking forward to exploring ADOBE PHOTOSHOP CC in the future.
