after downloading and installing, to begin using autocad you need to authorize it and connect to a shared drive. to authorize the app and the system, click the app launcher icon, click the settings icon, and then click more settings. you can do one of the following:

• choose the screen options to connect to a window or full screen
• choose the network options to connect to a shared drive (instead of the local drive) or ethernet

you’ll need to transfer.dwg and.dxf files to a shared location. you can access.dxf files on the local and network drives or on shared drives. open an existing.dwg or.dxf file by selecting file > open. open the shared drive dialog box by selecting file > shared drive. in the open dialog box, select the shared drive containing the autocad or autocad lt model files and then click open. in the file sharing dialog box, click open and then click ok.

if there are no shared drives in your autocad environment, you’ll need to create a network shared drive. you can create a network shared drive by selecting file >> new, the new drive option, and then choosing either folder or disk. after you’ve created the drive, open the file sharing dialog box by selecting file > shared drive, and then select the new drive in the list and click open.

after you authorize the app and connect to a shared drive, check the autocad and autocad lt dialog boxes to be sure the settings are correct. you can also find the settings tab by clicking the app launcher icon, clicking the settings icon, and then clicking more settings. click more settings in the files tab of the settings dialog box.

to begin using autocad, open an existing.dwg or.dxf file by selecting file > open. open the shared drive dialog box by selecting file > shared drive. in the open dialog box, select the shared drive containing the autocad or autocad lt model files and then click open.
as noted in the appendix to our faq , autocad and autocad lt for mac are one application. you can only activate the edition of the application you’re using. go to the product page in your autodesk account, and select the edition and version you’re using.
autocad lt software is released as part of the suite of software found in autodesk autocad lt for mac, a full version of autocad lt. you can use the single software for both 2d drawing and 3d modeling in addition to the other autocad lt 3d features and the 2d drafting of autocad lt.
you can also open autocad files directly in the lwt mac without the need to convert or open them using an autocad lt. this ability saves time for both ends of the workflow, and it’s especially helpful if you have autocad lt with one set of files you need to open for the same project. you can even use autocad lt for mac to save your project and continue using autocad lt for windows to open and edit the model.
if you need to open or convert autocad lt files for your business, use the software on your mac or pc as your primary cad tool. many mac users prefer to use autocad lt because of its productivity, simplicity, and quality workflow. if you already use autocad lt on your computer, use the software the same way and continue working using autocad lt on your mac for all your workflow needs.
